Dress from Madlady, platform wedges from Oasap

I spent this week being a tourist in my own city! Sightseeing, taking photos next to landmarks, lugging around the big DSLR, tanning on an artificial beach, and discovering new restaurants. I guess it is imperative that I do rediscover Shanghai, because in a month, it won't be until half-a-year that I'll see this city again.

Vintage Florals

Floral dress from Minkpink, wedges c/o Oasap, boater hat from H&M

Pastel and vintage-inspired florals against a dark background and black mesh really make this dress a year-round staple. The fact that it just happens to have a fit-and-flare silhouette, my silhouette of choice when it comes to dresses, really seals the deal. This is one of the many reasons why Minkpink happens to be one of my all-time favorite brands, along with its fellow and equally stunning Australian counterparts, Stylestalker, Shakuhachi, and Finders Keepers.

And believe it or not, these are the first black heeled shoes that I personally own, apart from my reliable Jamisons. The comfort of these shoes is incomparable, and I really adore the little details!

PS - The pink tinge on the left side of these photos is completely natural! I am going to really miss this Leica when I leave for college.

Stars and Sequins

Blake dress c/o Jovonnista, hat from Florence, shoes from Taiwan

This dress that the lovely Jojo of Jovonnista sent me is basically everything I love in a dress - billowy fabric, light, and whimsical. It's just something that you can throw on with minimal accessorizing. I can also see it transitioning into the fall with a great chunky knit thrown on top. I

For those of you that can notice the difference in my pictures - there is one! With Tim being away in California, I have been too lazy to find the screw that connects my camera to my tripod. I actually was worried that I wouldn't have any means of taking photos. The horror! Fittingly, my dad was lucky enough to be gifted the king of digital rangefinder cameras, the Leica M9-P. It's stunning. And to any of you other photography fanatics out there, you probably know that rangefinders take a while to shoot with, but alas, it's worth it!

I also shot these photos in the middle of the golf course, at the risk of being bombarded by wayward golf balls - just for you guys ;).

Lime and Purple

Clash Course 101 (pun intended): wear complementary colors! I love the way that the lime and purple work together to create something visually stimulating. I'm not usually a fan of anything bodycon, or tight for that matter, but with Motel Rocks, I really feel like the exception can be made because of their psychedelic prints! Pairing the dress with a purple clutch and similarly contrasting wedges was something I just gravitated towards.

Tunnel Vision vintage belt, vintage Lapis Lazuli necklace, Stella McCartney shorts

I was rummaging through my parents' closet when I came across this amazing duster with intertwined strands of mint, green, and cobalt! My mom came across this gem in one of those small granny crochet/knit stores. While I can't guarantee that you'll find many thrift stores in Shanghai, I assure you that you will find other amazing things here - I'll definitely miss it.

Black and White

BCBG leatherette accordion skirt, Steve Madden oxfords

Please excuse the slightly lackluster smile in the last photo - Tim calls it my "dead look." The truth is, wearing as much as I do (two layers on top, one being long-sleeves, leatherette on the bottom) in the humid heat of Shanghai with tons of curious onlookers is the perfect recipe for my tired smile!

As I've mentioned before, I'm heading off to college in a month, and it's really pushing me to delve into uncharted territory - with new experiences, being the "new kid" (although everyone is a new kid in their first year of college), moving halfway across the world, starting a long-distance relationship, and leaving all my best friends behind. On the other hand, there are some things that I am so excited about. I'll be majoring in Media Studies, with requirements in photography or film classes and art history. I'll be learning about things like the history of American broadcasting and women in media. It's just great to know that I'll be able to take classes in subjects that genuinely pique my interest. Did I mention that I also love meeting new people? Yet the fact remains that my feelings towards heading off to college are a little bit like this outfit - black and white. Then again, doesn't everything in life have its counterpart?

Tell me about your lives! I really love getting messages and just talking to you guys. Here's a shoutout to Alexis Yip of Fabulously Bold who was so sweet and sent me a message about what to do in SF! I'll reply you soon!

Brandy Melville denim jacket, Konoc perforated peace tank, Zara studded knit shortsDolce Vita Jamison boots

I made a beeline for these shorts after seeing them in the Zara sale. What attracted them to me was the color, sparse use of gold studs, and how they appeared to be tweed (very Chanel-inspired!).

I really also want to thank you all for being the sweetest readers. I had contemplated branching out into Youtube videos as well (since it's summer and I have time on my hands), but you've all seen how critical watchers are. Compared to the blogosphere, I feel like Youtube is just a scary and unwelcoming place. You guys, on the other hand, are the best! Love you all so much!

PS. Headed off to Japan in early August (if you didn't know, I lived in Japan for half-a-year before I was in Shanghai), and then it's off to California in a month. If you guys have any recommendations for San Francisco, feel free to shoot me an email or leave a comment!

PPS. I've finally made a Twitter account, and I would love it if you guys could follow me there as well (link)!

Studs and bolts

Mad Lady Bolt muscle tee, Mad Lady chiffon skirt, Steve Madden oxfords, H&M shades, Marc Jacobs cuff

I actually really love how muscle tees can transition you into all sorts of events and situations, and how they can be dressed up and down. They provide that masculine/tough/festival/comfy factor, all the while being great to contrast with more feminine pieces. After wearing mine during the day, I wore it to the gym at night as well, both out of laziness and because it's just that versatile (it also provides a much better alternative than baggy t-shirts)! I realized later that I had purple sweat on the tee from my excess hair dye...
